Flowers don’t just appear looking wonderful.
Have you ever wondered how flowers from other parts of the world can survive all the way to us, look great and last?
There is a process we follow to make sure our pretty petals arrive looking their best. It is quite a process and not every shop follows the “cold chain”. This refers to the transportation of temperature sensitive products.
Flowers are pre-cooled at the farm level, refrigerated during shipping, at the departing airport and after they arrive at their destination country. They are then loaded onto refrigerated trucks for the trip to the wholesaler’s coolers and then to our flower shop.
Temperatures are very important for fresh cut flowers. If the cold chain is not followed, it will affect the flower’s vase life. Long delays on hot airport tarmacs, or non air conditioned cargo holding areas for hours on end, starts a downward spiral on vase life that can’t be recaptured.
If this cold chain is interrupted by things like hurricanes, tsunamis and other world issues, it will affect the life of the flower. We hope that this is not happening to our flowers but we can never be sure no matter how hard we work to keep the cold chain.
Once you receive your flowers, be sure to change your water out every few days and clean your vase with a little bleach and dishwater to kill bacteria. Display your flowers in a cool part of the house and don’t expose it to cold or hot temperatures.
I hope your flower ordering experience is a great one. Call us today and send flowers that go from your heart….to theirs.
