la petite Jaune Fleur started out as my dream in a second career. As a safety specialist for many years, I finally made the decision to follow my passion and train as a floral designer and open my own flower store. I have been a local shop in Red Deer for over 15 years and believe my love for flowers and design have served me well. My husband actually came up with the name la petite Jaune Fleur because yellow is my favorite color and I wanted a shop that had a European flavour. The name stuck and I followed with a vespa which I ride all over the city with my two little dogs Jadzia and Fergie.
I am blessed to be able to create flowers that speak to peoples heart in good times and in bad. I have a small but mighty team and we try to convey that personal emotion for every occasion. The awards we have won both locally and internationally always remind me of whom we serve and why.
My instructor once told me that in order to break the rules and create outside of the box, I had to learn the rules and understand not only how to arrange flowers but how to care for them and understand their needs. Now that I own my own shop, I love to break the rules and if it can be made, I will create it!
I grew up with my mother and grandmother who loved to garden. I have many fond memories of walking through the garden with my grandmother as she would explain to me the different kinds of flowers and how to look after them.
I began my creative journey in the world of costuming for theatre and film. Having spent nearly 20 years as the Head of Wardrobe for Red Deer Polytechnic (nee College), I was able to meet many inspiring and collaborative people.
I am a strong believer in lifelong learning. I am changing direction in my career and floral design will allow me to immerse myself into something different and let my creativity bloom in a new way. Floral design will also allow me to continue working with people to express their emotions through flowers.
I am looking forward to a new way to express my creativity in this new medium.
Laura and I have had fun working together and I have learned so much from this amazing teacher! I assure the shop will be in good hands while Laura explores new adventures.
